Dutch organisation Angel’s Choice has been active since May 13th 2015. So 2025 was an anniversary year. To be honest, there was nothing to celebrate because after all those years the rescue landscape has not changed. Ignorance, cruelty and a lack of compassion are still the cause of countless animals suffering. Legislation is not helping. On the contrary.
In 2025 Angel’s Choice has been supporting rescuers of cats and dogs mainly in North-Macedonia and was involved in one project in Argentina. The main focus has been neutering as many dogs and cats as possible, because this is the only way to prevent animals suffering. The activities in 2025 involved fundraising, collecting donations, collecting necessities and sending them to the rescuers, giving medical advice and networking.

Organisations supported
In 2025 the following rescuers and rescue organisations received support:
– Angelcats Sanctuary, Skopje, North-Macedonia, run by Maja Popovska, mainly cats, supported since the beginning of 2015
– Dog Rescue Gastarovska, Skopje, North-Macedonia, run by Silvija Gastarovska, mainly handicapped dogs, supported since the beginning of 2015
–  Masha’s friends, Skopje, North-Macedonia, run by Tatjana Atanasova, cats and dogs, supported since 2018
– Friend of Animals, Prilep area, North-Macedonia, dogs and cats, run by Vlatko Zatkoski, supported since 2019
– Anima Mundi, Skopje, North-Macedonia, project to prevent blindness in kittens, run by Melita Ivanova, supported since 2019
– LuBA Salta, Salta, Argentina, run by Kike Rosales Luarte, 1 project in 2025, but the cooperation started many years ago with the rescue of handicapped dog Lunita, that was adopted in USA
– and some individual rescuers, mainly with medical advice or specific medication and sometimes fundraising for individual dogs or cats.

Neuterings
The official neutering project run by Angelcats Sanctuary started in 2019. In 2025 1086 cats have been neutered. Meaning a total of 4874 cats since the start of this project. 2024 and 2025 were top years, but a decline is expected for 2026 as the price per neutering was raised from 20 euro to 30 euro in October 2025.
Friend of Animals neutered 22 dogs.
All neuterings were paid for by donations and fundraising activities.
In 2024 Angel’s Choice raised the money for the second neutering station in Salta Argentina, a project of LuBa Salta in co-operation with the municipality. Followed by the opening on May 5th 2025. To give you an idea of the success of this project: in the first two months after the opening 357 sterilizations, 139 medical consultations, 214 vaccinations and 108 dewormings were carried out. This shows what can be achieved when people and organisations work together to create a better life for the animals.

Leishmania
Since February 2019 Adrie Beyen (founder of Angel’s Choice) has been admin of the Dutch Facebook group ‘Mijn hond heeft leishmania’ (my dog has leishmania). In this capacity she helps and supports owners of leish+ dogs, rescue organisations and vets by providing information, interpretating lab reports and giving advice for therapy. She is also content manager of the website http://www.leishmania.nl (launched in 2023). This all started with dog Sharko in the early years of Angel’s Choice. Getting acquainted with Sharko was getting acquainted with leishmania. After a tough struggle disease control was reached and he lived a happy life without worries in the Netherlands. At the end of 2024 he was diagnosed with DM (degenerative myelopathy), a progressive disease (like ALS in humans), and died a year later. He was a very special dog and had and will continue to have a great impact on the lives of many (humans and dogs).

Rehoming
With the help of Dutch colleague organization Pandora five dogs were transported to their forever home or foster home in the Netherlands. Four of them with a light or severe handicap and one of them a senior.

Finances
Money makes the rescue world go round and with the rising prices the going round gets tougher by the year. All rescuers need donations to provide the animals on the streets and in their shelter or sanctuary with medical care and food. Fortunately there is a number of loyal supporters who sponsor specific dogs, specific rescuers or specific projects like the neutering project. But the number is decreasing due to several causes.
The fundraising activities vary from sponsorkliks (% from sales in various webshops) to monthly auctions and the sale of donated items on e.g. Market Place and car boot sales. Several lotteries were organised in co-operation with Stichting Dierennood and Nuver Huus (Germany).
In 2025 12 auctions were organised with the help of Hans Toorneman and Monique Stavast. Auction 106 was the last one in 2025, which means that this was the 9th year in which monthly auctions were organised. In total the 12 auctions raised 9.836,76 euro and this money was used to pay vet bills, medication, supplements, special diet food and neuterings.
Postage of sold items was sponsored once again by Dutch publishing company A3 boeken.

Donated necessities
Various people in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany donated necessities. From deworming tablets and spot on pipets to diapers, wet wipes, supplements, food, blankets and more. In total 14 parcels of 20 kilo each were sent to rescuers in North-Macedonia by mail (plane). Sadly sending parcels by mail is becoming more expensive by the year and the process is far from smooth. The last parcel sent this year took 3 months to reach the destination and was only released by customs after a lot of interference. This year it was not possible to send parcels to North Macedonia with the help of pet transport companies.
Necessities that could not be sent to North Macedonia because they were too big, too heavy or forbidden to be imported were donated to various private sanctuaries in the Netherlands and shelters in Romania. In total 12 parcels with an average weight of 20 kilo.
Once again publishing company A3 boeken paid postage for all those parcels.
In total 327 tubes of Terramycin were sent to Melita Ivanova for the kitten project.

Thank you
Our yearly journey is never easy because of the hardship and sadness we encounter, but it is always highlighted by special souls, disguised as humans and animals. Selfless and compassionate beings that gives us the courage and determination to continue our mission.
Thanks from the heart to all who helped one way or another!
