We received this bag from Anna. It was filled with cat toys and syringes.
The bag will be for sale in Angel’s Choice shop, the cat toys will go to Angelcats Sanctuary and the syringes will be divided between Angelcats Sanctuary and Dog Rescue Gastarovska both in Skopje, Macedonia, to administer medicines orally and to feed kittens and puppies. Thank you Anna!

Poor Olly was hiding under the bonnet of a car and got oil all over him. Besides this he is suffering from ear mites, urethritis and penile infection, constipation, dehydration and severe bronchopneumonia. He is only a few months old. At Angelcats Sanctuary he was washed a few times, but the oil is very sticky. At the vet he got antibiotics, vitamins and IV. He needed help urinating and moving his bowels. Let’s hope he will get better soon.

We have wonderful news! Hana, the husky girl with leishmania from Skopje, Macedonia, has been offered a home by a wonderful couple in Belgium. Last year she was found in poor condition by Ivana Miseva. It turned out she has leishmania. We organized a fundraiser and were able to send her the medicin milteforan. The leishmania is under control now (cannot be cured), but still nobody in Macedonia wanted to adopt her. No need anymore, because she has a home offer from Belgium.
Hana will need medicine all her life and bloodanalysis every 6 months.Transport from Macedonia to Belgium is quite expensive and because the adopters face medical expenses for as long as Hana lives, we want to help them by raising at least part of the costs for transport. We would also like to give them the medicine allopurinal for the first few months.
Total costs for vaccinations, chip, passport, veterinary certificate, plane tickets for Hana and her human companion, 2 packages of allopurinol: 340 euro.

We hebben geweldig nieuws! Hana, het husky meisje met leishmania uit Skopje, Macedonia, mag verhuizen naar België. Een geweldig stel wil haar adopteren. Vorig jaar werd ze in slechte conditie gevonden door Ivana Miseva. Ze bleek leishmania te hebben. We hebben een fundraiser georganiseerd en konden het medicijn milteforan opsturen. De leishmania is nu onder controle (kan niet worden genezen), maar niemand in Macedonië wilde haar adopteren. Dat hoeft nu niet meer, want ze krijgt een huis aangeboden in België. Hana moet haar hele leven medicijnen slikken en elk half jaar moet haar bloed worden onderzocht. Het vervoer van Macedonië naar België is vrij duur en omdat de adoptanten medische onkosten hebben zo lang Hana leeft, willen we hen helpen door in ieder geval een deel van de transportkosten te betalen. We willen ook het medicijn allopurinol geven voor de eerste maanden.
De totale kosten voor vaccinaties, chip, paspoort, veterinair uitreisdocument, vliegtickets voor Hana en begeleider en twee pakjes allopurinol bedragen 340 euro.

Blind Srna was in paid foster care because at first she was not vaccinated. Now she is at Maja’s home in Skopje, Macedonia, and today she will visit the vet. She needs surgery because one of her eyes is hurting her and it gets infected all the time. Let’s hope they can set a date for her surgery very soon. She should not suffer any longer.

On January first I got a cry for help from a man from Skopje about a dog not being able to walk. He could not take care of her, he said. He had no money to pay the vet, he said. So I asked Silvija if she could help the dog. The nights are very cold now in Macedonia and you cannot leave an injured dog outside. (healthy dogs neither, but that’s another story). Yesterday she took the dog, we called her Anny, to vet Marin. She was shot! The bullet entered her bode on the lift side and left it on the right. She has internal damage. And today it became clear she is pregnant. Is this the reason why somebody tried to kill her?
Op 1 januari riep een man uit Skopje mijn hulp in voor een hond die niet kon lopen. Hij zei dat hij niet voor haar kon zorgen. Hij zei ook dat hij geen geld had om de dierenarts te betalen. Dus vroeg ik Silvija om deze hond te helpen. De nachten zijn nu erg koud in Macedonië en je kunt een gewonde hond niet op straat laten. (gezonde honden ook niet, maar dat is een ander verhaal) Gisteren nam ze de hond, we hebben haar Anny genoemd, mee naar dierenarts Marin. Ze was neergeschoten! De kogel ging links haar buik in en kwam er rechts weer uit. Ze heeft innerlijke verwondingen. En vandaag werd duidelijk dat ze zwanger is. Is dit de reden waarom iemand heeft geprobeerd haar te vermoorden?
On January second Silvija was asked for help for this young stray dog. He started having problems walking and it’s getting worse. Tests have to be done to find out if anything can be done to help him. We called him Bunny.
Op 2 januari werd Silvija om hulp gevraagd voor deze jonge zwerfhond. Hij begon problemen met lopen te krijgen en het wordt steeds erger. Onderzoeken moeten uitwijzen of hij kan worden geholpen. We hebben hem Bunny genoemd.

For animal rescuers there are no holidays… it goes on and on and on. This is Bourbon, the newest member of the Angelcats family. Rescued from the streets by Maja on the first day of 2016. She will be neutered and then the search for a home will start. She is 2 years old. Probably too old to be adopted in Macedonia… For a stray cat she is very tame.

Voor dierenredders zijn er geen feestdagen… het gaat gewoon door, dag in, dag uit. Dit is Bourbon, het nieuwste lid van de Angelcats familie. Van de straat gered door Maja op de eerste dag van 2016. Ze wordt gecastreerd en dan begint de zoektocht naar een thuis. Ze is 2 jaar oud. Dat is waarschijnlijk te oud om in Macedonië te worden geadopteerd… Voor een zwerfkat is ze behoorlijk tam.

About 100 animals neutered
Neutering animals is the best way to save lifes. Angelcats Sanctury started a neutering campaign in May and over 70 cats were neutered this year thanks to a fundraiser. At Recue for animals about 15 cats and dogs were neutered thanks to a fundraiser. Apart from this several other dogs and cats were neutered at Animalia Ohrid and Dog Rescue Gastarovska.

Full support means trying to raise money for medical treatments, food and other necessities for daily care, trying to find a forever home for some of the animals and organising transport, networking, providing information and second opinion from vets and specialists, moral support, et cetera.

RIP
Unfortunately not all the dogs and cats that were rescued survived their ordeal. Sometimes their injuries were too severe, sometimes the medical facilities and knowledge were not available, sometimes they died of causes unknown, sometimes they had already been through too much and just gave in, sometimes they really had bad luck, sometimes… It is particularly sad when an animal dies just a few days before transport to its forever home. This happened to handicapped cat Zoe and puppy Sofia that was rescued by Belgian tourists.

Angel and I want to thank all the animal rescuers for doing what they do every day of their lives, it’s a hell of a job with a lot of positive endings but unfortunately also some sad endings.
We also want to thank all the people who have adopted a dog or cat and all the people who fostered or are still fostering a dog or cat. Without you, they wouldn’t live like a prince or princess now.
We also want to thank all the people who donated money and stuff, individuals and some companies and vet clinics. Money and stuff are always needed by animal rescuers to take good care of the dogs and cats.
Thanks as well to the people who bought items from Angel’s Choice shop. With the proceeds we were able to buy medicines and other necessities.
Also thanks to the people who accompanied dogs and cats on their way to their new homes and taking stuff with them on their way to Macedonia.

The last post of this year is a video of little Kaja. When Kaja came to live at Dog Rescue Gastarovska in Skopje a few months ago she could not move even one leg. She could only lie on her side. Silvija started massaging her and stimulating her nerves. We got her a four wheeled chair to help her revalidating. And look how she is doing now. Let’s hope progress continues!
Het laatste bericht van dit jaar is een video van de kleine Kaja. Toen Kaja enkele maanden geleden bij Dog Rescue Gastarovska in Skopje kwam wonen kon ze nog niet eens een pootje bewegen. Ze kon alleen maar op haar zij liggen. Silvija begon met masseren en zenuwstimulatie. Wij zorgden voor een rolstoel met vier wielen. En kijk hoe goed ze het nu al doet.

One day in December Angel and I met Nadia and Ivy on our morning walk. We found out she is a vet assistant at Dierenkliniek Lochem, a town a few miles from our home village. And look what she brought us: many many pipets flea spot on treatment, Milbemax deworming tablets, eye cleaner, Kleen face, megaderm supplement for skin and fur, zitac tablets to treat gastritis and hypoallergen snacks. Also several products for birds or rodents, which we gave to Stichting Sannie Vleermuis in the Netherlands.
Op een dag in december kwamen Angel en ik Nadia en Ivy tegen op onze ochtendwandeling. We ontdekten dat zij dierenartsassistente is bij Dierenkliniek Lochem, een stadje niet ver bij ons vandaan. En kijk wat ze ons heeft gebracht: heel veel pipetten vlooien spot on, Milbemax ontwormingstabletten, oogreiniger, Kleen face, megaderm supplement voor huid en haar, zitac tabletten voor gastritis en hypoallergene snacks. Ook enkele producten voor vogels en knaagdieren, die we hebben gegeven aan Stichting Sannie Vleermuis in Nederland.
